Ingredients

  • 1 lb spaghetti noodles
  • 1 lb sweet and smooth Italian tomato sauce
  • 8 ounces tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • ½ cup minced carrots and red peppers
  • 2 cups diced or thinly sliced hot dogs
  • 1 cup water

Method

  1. Cook the spaghetti noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced onion and garlic, sauté until fragrant (3-4 minutes). Add ground pork and cook, breaking it up, until browned completely.
  3. Stir in the minced carrots, red peppers, and diced hot dogs. Add water and simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
  4. Pour in the sweet tomato sauce and tomato paste. Stir well to combine and continue to simmer for another 10-15 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Combine the cooked spaghetti noodles and the savory meat sauce in a large pot. Toss gently until evenly coated.
  6. Serve hot, topped with grated cheese for that classic Filipino touch, allowing it to melt into the sauce.

Notes

- Use a good quality, smooth, and slightly sweet Italian-style tomato sauce for the authentic flavor.
- Don't skip the hot dogs; they add a distinct texture and mild saltiness.
- Simmer the sauce long enough to allow the flavors to deepen and meld together.
- Grate cheese like Velveeta or a similar processed cheese and let it melt on top for a classic finish.
